The Montegrappa Venetia Celluloid Fountain Pen in Turquoise combines the rounded proportions of the brand's archival designs with one of traditional penmaking's most distinctive materials. Its appeal lies in the relationship between form and finish: a substantial, softly tapered silhouette gives the celluloid room to display its color, while an 18k gold nib makes the pen equally suited to a writing desk or a collection.
Craftsmanship & Design
The Turquoise finish brings a vivid blue-green palette to the Venetia's rounded silhouette, emphasizing the expressive color for which Italian celluloid is admired. Celluloid is valued for its visual depth and warmth in the hand, and its individual patterning means the appearance can vary from pen to pen. The Venetia's rounded ends and screw-cap construction keep the overall design cohesive, with the clip and cap band providing definition around the patterned body.
Rather than relying on an elaborate overlay, this version lets the material carry the design. The transition from cap to barrel preserves the collection's continuous profile, while the shaped grip provides a practical point of contact for everyday writing.
Writing Experience
An 18k gold nib and ebonite feed form the writing assembly. Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, and Broad options let the writer choose between smaller handwriting, a versatile everyday line, and a fuller stroke for signatures or expressive inks. These are conventional writing nibs; nib width should be selected for the intended handwriting and paper.
The cartridge/converter filling system accepts standard international fountain pen cartridges or bottled ink with a compatible converter. That arrangement makes routine refilling straightforward and allows the pen to move between a desk-based ink collection and convenient cartridge use while traveling.
Collector Context
The Venetia reflects Montegrappa's long association with Italian writing instruments and early twentieth-century design. Turquoise offers the most overtly colorful approach among these finishes, pairing a familiar archival form with a fresh, saturated palette. For an enthusiast who values both material character and practical filling, it offers a direct way to enjoy celluloid without a more complicated internal filling mechanism.
