THOUGHTS: Solid, well-constructed daily writer from an "under the radar" brand. Excels through long writing sessions (1+ hour daily) without producing any noticeable fatigue. Slender barrel is well-balanced and light for a metal pen: lighter than Watermans, other Diplomats, etc. but more substantial than resin pens.
The keystone is its nib: though smaller than the #6 JoWo (featured on the Excellence A2, Aero and Nexus models), it is extremely well finished. The tip is butter-smooth, expertly polished and glides even over less ideal papers. Nib grind emphasizes a higher writing angle, which is no trouble if you prefer holding the pen closer to the nib. The bevel keeps the tip wet and allows you to write without holding the nib exactly parallel to the line like some pens I own require (otherwise the ink flow lessens and "feel" becomes scratchy). The feed is a wetter flow than other Diplomats, so you might be able to use drier ink (4001 series Pelikan). Perfect ink pairing: any of Monteverde's "Smoke" series.
Unlike other Diplomats, the Esteem's feed stem does not fit into the converter receiver as tightly. A little more care is required to ensure the proper fit. I've not had an ink leak yet, though.
